The Slave Trade
After the Revolution, sea captains and ship owners from both sides of the Atlantic united to prosper and profit from the slave trade. They formed a voting bloc in the United States that would not accept losing under the democratic process. Instead they would resort to assassination attempts on presidents Taylor, Harrison and Lincoln. The south despite secret aid from Boston Brahmins and British traders lost the war. They still refused to give up the fight and the new secret organization changed from the underground Golden Circle to become the Ku Klux Klan. Recruitment for both often meant going to Masonic lodges for members.
